Volunteer

By volunteering your time, talents, and/or skills to ACCAP, you can help provide the leadership and understanding for our families and individuals that will enable them to achieve their goal of self-sufficiency.

Volunteer opportunities are listed below. When you find an opportunity that interests you or if you need further information, you may contact us by telephone at 763.783.4747. Current Volunteer Opportunities: 

Senior Program Services:

Assist elderly or disabled adults with chores such as mowing, raking, cleaning, snow removal, etc. Provide information and assistance to callers (training provided).Volunteers age 60+ needed to help isolated or lonely seniors by visiting once a week. Mileage and meal allowance provided. If income eligible, volunteers also receive an hourly stipend.

Housing Program:

Volunteers are needed for various projects in the spring; landscaping, staining fences and raking. Leaf raking volunteers are also needed in the fall. Volunteers should have the ability to work unsupervised. We encourage young adults to volunteer. But for safety reasons we have the following requirements. Volunteers who are under 16 years will have adult supervision at the site and are not allowed to use power equipment. Safety training provided.

Twice Nice is ACCAP's thrift store. We have many volunteer opportunities. Find out more here.

Head Start:

Volunteers are said to be the backbone of the Head Start program. Volunteers are an invaluable part of Head Start. Whether you are a parent, friend, family member or a concerned community member there are many ways you can get involved. Head Start volunteer application here.

Head Start volunteer opportunities include:

• Help with the planning and set-up of seasonal activities, parent meetings, volunteer recognition and field trips;
• Type and file;
• Help collate the newsletter;
• Help interpret a foreign language for parents/staff;
• Volunteer in a classroom;
• Read a book to a child or group of children;
• Help supervise children on the playground;
• Assist on field trips;
• Visit the classroom and share something about your cultural heritage or family history;
• Teach the children about your favorite hobby or job;
• Help prepare mailings and stuff envelopes;
• Distribute Head Start Program flyers in the community;
• Be a bus monitor by assisting the driver and the children to make it a safe and happy ride;
• Help locate clothing donations;
• Participate in United Way Caring Connections (matches people to volunteer projects by interests and location preferences).
